I’m not engaged but couldn’t help imagining a getaway dress that would be inspired by Liesl’s dress from the hopelessly romantic scene of “Sixteen going on Seventeen” from the Sound of Music. Her dress is light, flowing, and romantic, perfect for a spring or summer evening. I would want my dress to hit right above the knee, made of chiffon, and very loose. The skirt would have two layers of the same length but would give it some extra swing. An empire waist would connect in the back of the dress with a thin long bow. On the front, at the waist, left side would be a beautiful chiffon fabric flower. It would set off a plain scoop neckline and a slight curve as the back neckline. The sleeves would have two layers of ruffles, the bottom longer than the top, that would drape softly over the shoulders, and the tips would attach in the front and back a bit below the empire waistline. Not stiff ruffles, but loose ones that would float while dancing, or simply making your grand exit. The color: soft, light. Ivory? Turquoise? Lavender? If you picture that dress on a woman whose hand is in her man’s as they run down the aisle of people holding sparklers, it just seems magical.
